Kerry Buckley, vice president,Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD), the federally funded research and development center sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration and operated by MITRE, was named a winner of theAviation Week Network 65th Annual Laureate Awards, honoring extraordinary achievements in the global aerospace arena.
Prior to joining CAASD in July 2022, Buckley was the vice president, Air and Space Forces, for MITRE National Security, and led the MITRE team that created a space risk registry and management system. Simulating the increasingly crowded environment between the ground and outer space, this system calculates the risk to space operators, indicates where government regulation will provide benefit, and pinpoints where industry could develop best practices without waiting for government.
